Oh no, I stuck it in the wrong place!!! Fear Not, I'm here - #127

We all have those moments, I sometimes think I have more than most. You have made a fantastic card and all you need to do to finish it off is stick it to a cardbase. Then something goes wrong and you stick it down crocked! Oh, no, what are you going to do? You could leave it, after all it is a home made card, so it will never be perfect, right! You could throw it away, but it took you an hour to get this far and it needs to go in the post in 15 minutes!

Worry no longer, thanks to one of my fantastic YouTube Subscribers, we have the perfect, simple and cheap solution - Dental Floss! Seriously, dental tape is your friend, this technique really does work. Watch the video for this and other tips of how not to get all stuck up.

Now I have a little warning for you. In just one week the fantastic July offers will finish, they will be no more, they will have gone away.

The one I REALLY need you to spend time looking at is the Membership Deal - let's stop calling it becoming a Demonstrator, you don't have to BE a Demonstrator, you just need to buy your quality Crafting products at a discount, so that's a Membership deal, right?

Beautiful Peekaboo Bouquet - #126

Welcome to another week, for me that means another week of crafty fun and frolics and not the slog into London that I was doing this time last year. Taking that leap of faith that turning my hobby into my job took a lot of thought and planning, but I am so pleased that I took it. My life is so much better as a result. Yes, I have taken a drop in my income, but the increase in the quality of my life more than evens that out.

Beautiful Bouquet Peekaboo Card

But let's park that for a moment and look at today's Make it up Monday project. I love that this looks a bit complicated, but it is actually really simple. Just watch the video to see how to make it. Remember that in July the more you spend, the more Bonus Days Vouchers you will get, one £4.50 voucher to spend in August for every £45 you spend in my online store in July!! AND for every £25 you spend with me in July you will get an entry into my FREE Giveaway to win two of the new Hostess Sets, Tranquil Tulips AND Dare to Dream - you see I like to look after my customers.

It is also Christmas in July for anyone wanting to get all the benefits of being a (scary word warning) Demonstrator, or what I like to think of as Member. If you want to benefit from the same opportunities as me, even if you don't take that final step, such as a discount on your crafty supplies, the amazing friendships that you can make sharing your passion for papercraft, earn free products, get your hands on new products ahead of customers, attend inspirational Team and Stampin' Up! events, earn an all expenses paid Holiday for Two, the list goes on. And ALL you have to do to get access to all of this is buy discounted products by purchasing the Starter Kit, it is like your membership fee, and this month you get even more for that membership. You get the usual £130 of product of your choice, but in July Stampin' Up! will add and additional £65 of product - all of these items will automatically be added to your Starter Kit

No automatic alt text available.

Go on, you know you want to become a Member too. There is no need to run classes or hold Workshops unless you want to, you can be your only customer if that is what suits you, but if you want to earn some extra money, I can help you with ideas for that too.

Dandelion Balloon Celebration on Subtle Sunday - #125

Welcome back to Subtle Sunday, the day when we look at a softer palette and a quieter looking project. I found the idea for this on Pinterest, but have not been able to find out who came up with the original idea, otherwise I would like to acknowledge them, although they used a very different palette and included patterned paper, so it does look quite different.

Balloon Celebrations Dandelion Card in Soft Sky

Balloon Celebrations Dandelion Card in Blushing Bride

I was surprised when I realised that there were the stamps for the dandelion in this set, they are really hidden in amongst everything else, but they are there and they are so pretty to use. I think this is a set that will be useful for all sorts of occasions, and I have even seen some of the stamps used as 'designer stubble'; seriously!

I really enjoyed making this card, it is so 'simple, but effective', oh and you will notice that I managed to straighten out the Blushing Bride version, in spite of having used Fast Fuse. More on how in a future Top Tip Tuesday.

Are these Cute, or are these Cute? - #124

I am not known for being child friendly, but this Bundle caught me at a moment of weakness, so I had to get it, and I am so pleased that I did; these are the cutest things I have seen in a very long time, so versatile and, did I say they are cute?

A Little Wild Blushing Bride Baby Bear CardA Little Wild Pool Party Baby Elephant Card

A Little Wild So Saffron Baby Lion Card

The video shows me making the So Saffron/Lion version, but the others are just a cute and easy to make. The one I actually needed to make is the Blushing Bride/Bear version and I added a little piece of the Double Stitched Ribbon to the side of that, just because I could! I am particularly pleased with the effect of the Ruffled Dynamic Texture Impressions Folder, it adds a little something that would have been missing if I had used 'flat' cardstock.

I accept that I have used three sets of Framelits, but I think that you should use what you have, and the Layering Circles and Stitched Shaped Framelits should be added to your stash as staples. Remember that if you spend in my online store this month, you not only get an entry into my draw for the Tranquil Tulips and Dare To Dream Hostess Stamp Sets for every £25 you spend, but for every £45 you spend you also get a voucher valued at £4.50 to spend in August!!!! Love it!!

And remember that we are also celebrating Christmas in July with the most amazing joining offer. Not only do you get the usual £130 of product of your choice, but Stampin' Up will also throw in the Carols of Christmas Clear Mount Stamp Set, 2 x D Block, 100 Sheets of Grid Paper, a pair of Snips, a SNAIL adhesive AND a Bone Folder (value £65), making a TOTAL of £195 all for ONLY £99 including FREE P&P. This really is an amazing deal, particularly when you remember that you then get a discount off your own purchases. If any of your friends and family buy through you, you also get an income from their purchases. Remember that if it does not work out for you, you get to keep everything you have bought with no penalty at all. Go on, you know you want to, join the others that have joined my Team this month, you will join a really supportive and friendly group.

Consider Yourself Hugged - #123

Today is Friday!!! What a happy day, and at Old Stables Crafts that means it is a day to acknowledge our Friends. For me that can be anyone, for whatever reason, not just because they have done a good deed for you, or because it is their birthday, but 'just because'.

Lots of Love card - consider yourself hugged

I wanted to do a slightly different fold today too, and once I had decided on that, the stamp set was obvious, because of the sentiment 'Consider yourself hugged', the card just felt like a hug to me. The card is not difficult to put together and ends up at the 'standard' metric size, so fits our C6 envelopes still.

I do hope you give this fold a try, I think it is such fun and really easy!

Dimensions:
Cardbase - 4-1/8 x 11-1/2" (10.5 x 29cm) score at 2-7/8" (7.25cm) from each end landscape orientation)
Coloured Card - 4 x 3" (10 x 7.5cm)
Whisper White - Two cut at 2-5/8 x 3-7/8" ( 6.75 x 10cm), one cut at 3-3/4 x 2-3/4" (9.5 x 7cm)
Inside mat - 5-5/8 x 3-7/8" (14 x 9.75cm)

Is it a Tag? Is it a Bag? No, it's Thank you Thursday!!

I am so grateful that one of my lovely YouTube Subscribers sent me a little parcel of goodies a little while ago which she thought I might enjoy basing some of my projects around. Today is the second of those items and is a Tab Bag (for want of some better way to describe it!)

Cute Tag Bag

This is such a cute little gift wrapping and is ideal for any small item. In this case a trolley token, which is such a useful gift to give.

The project uses very few supplies, being based around a piece of 3 x 6" paper. That means you can get two from a piece of our small stacks, or an amazing eight from a piece of 12 x 12". A few scraps of cardstock a short piece of ribbon and baker's twine and you are done!! Oh, and both the card colours are available in the Colour Theory Cardstock Pack - result!!

I love quick projects like this.

Why not Christmas in July

Why not Wednesday is starting today in earnest. The video I posted last week is in the Why not Wednesday Playlist on my YouTube channel, but was really just a card I wanted to make, so 'why not'! But today, makes more sense as a 'why not'.

Christmas in July Carols of Christmas Real Red CardChristmas in July Carols of Christmas Night of Navy Card

I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at the stamp set I have been wittering on about since the start of the month. I have had it for a few days now, so time to get it inky. The cards I made are fairly quick and easy, although they do use a couple of techniques that you may or may not know how to do (keep and eye open on Top Tip Tuesday). I like both colourways, but I am a bit of a blue and white for Christmas fan, so that is probably my favourite.

So, lets just remind ourselves of the Christmas in July offer. This is for people wanting to join my Team of Stable Hands. In addition to the usual amazing Starter Kit offer of £130 of product of your choice, for just £99 including FREE P&P and FREE Business Starter Kit, until the end of July you will also be given:

  • 2 x D Blocks
  • 100 sheet pad of Grid Paper
  • Pair of Snips
  • Bone Folder
  • SNAIL Adhesive
  • Carols of Christmas Clear Mount Stamp Set
That is and ADDITIONAL £65 of product FREE, so £195 of Product for ONLY £99. This really is Christmas in July!!

If you are not ready to join our growing Team at this stage, don't worry, you will be able to order the stamps and dies individually or as a Bundle in August, maybe using your Bonus Day Vouchers?

The Product list at the bottom of the page does not include the details of the stamps or dies as they are only available for Demos at the moment, but watch this space for more details very soon.

Top Tip Tuesday - Changing Adhesive Refills - #120

After the amazing success of last week's video giving a brief tour of all the adhesives that Stampin' Up! carry, I thought it would be a good idea to show you how to change the refills on a couple of them.

Fast Fuse and SNAIL Adhesive and refills

Both Fast Fuse and SNAIL are refillable, and there is a very important thing to understand about the Fast Fuse Refill. Did you know that if you buy Fast Fuse you get 12 m of really strong adhesive, that is just perfect for construction boxes, adding embellishments etc. BUT if you get the refill you get an AMAZING 20 m, nearly twice the length of stickiness!!

The SNAIL adhesive is great for sticking paper and lighter layers, but is not recommended for constructing cardstock boxes. SNAIL and the refill are both 12 m in length.

I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding about the expense of Fast Fuse, but did you know that SNAIL is about 33p a meter and Fast Fuse Refill is only about 35p a meter; just 2p more than SNAIL

Who wants to make Coffee Cupcakes - #119

Welcome to Make it up Mondays. I was not sure what I intended when I thought up that name, but this first project may set the trend (not promising) as I have taken a set all about Coffee and changed it up a bit. We are still in Coffee Shop territory, but more about the food and less about the beverage!

Cupcakes from Coffee Cups
 Cupcakes from Coffee Cups

I think it is safe to say that I have used only two very small stamps and one tiny die in the way they were originally intended. Whether you call the topping icing or frosting, these are certainly cupcakes, and with an added sparkle, just perfect for starting your week. So sit down with your cupcake and a cup of something inviting and enjoy the video!

Beautiful Bouquet Subtle Sunday - #118

After the craziness and mayhem that was yesterday's video, we have a much calmer feel about today with the first of our Subtle Sundays. A series that will feature the Subtles Collection. This not only allowed for more alliteration, but also seemed to set the right mood for Sundays.

Subtle Sundays Beautiful Bouquet Card

Today's project is a simple card using the smaller floral elements of the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set. I think this makes an elegant card for any occasion, and there are lots to choose from in the set. I think the Calypso Coral Ombre Ribbon is the perfect finishing element for the card, along with the softness of the vellum mat. I am really pleased with how both cards came together, and were so quick.

Do give these a try and if you like the idea of Subtles Sunday, why not get the Collection of Inks and Mixed Card pack and play along with us. The projects will always use minimal supplies and only the Subtles Collection of colours.

Global Design Project #095

I was not sure I was going to enter the GDP Challenge this week. I have had a lot on and was not sure I was going to find the time to do a project justice. Then I realised that one of my tasks for the week was to plan my August Class Projects. I decided that I would be using the Pieces & Patterns stamp set and that I wanted to include some inking techniques using the new Gloss Paper.

Pieces & Patterns Wild About You using Gloss Card

The first card I made, seemed to hit the brief for the GDP Challenge perfectly; this is a Theme week, and the theme is 'Kids'. Well I think this card would be ideal for kids of all ages.

I love this stamp set and the matching Designer Series Papers, there are just so many styles in it, so it works for all ages and all occasions, which is EXACTLY what I look for in my supplies.

Unusually for me, there is no video to go with this project, so here is a brief description of the steps:
  • Heat emboss the 'dash' pattern on the Gloss Card using Versamark and White Embossing Powder.
  • Using an Aqua Painter, apply Crushed Curry and Sahara Sand Ink to the Gloss Card (use more water for a more 'fluid' background.
  • Using Archival Black Ink, Stamp the sentiment and image on a scrap of Whisper White Card. Once it is dry, colour in the 'WILD' using Flirty Flamingo and Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Markers.
  • Die Cut this piece using the Layering Squares. This is a little tricky as you have to part cut using a small square and then line it up again to make the rectangle - or just cut it on your trimmer!!! I will show you how to do the rectangle in a future Top Tip Tuesday Video.
  • Stamp the dashes down the edge of the layer for the inside of the card using second generation Crushed Curry and Sahara Sand.
  • Assemble all the pieces using Fast Fuse for the Gloss Card (to help flatten it out) and Dimensionals for the sentiment.

Eastern Request on Saturday - #117

Today sees the start of my Requests on Sunday series, and it seems appropriate that we start with the suggestion of one of my VIPs as it was for some projects that use the Eastern Palace Bundle. What better day that the last day of the Stampin' Up Incentive Trip to Thailand to feature this Bundle.

Eastern Palace Bundle CardEastern Beauty Card

Eastern Medallions Sunflower card

The video that goes with this post is a little manic! I challenged myself to make three projects in under 30 mins (the maximum time my camera will record a video without turning itself off due to boredom!). I accept that I cut a few corners, but I am still staggered that it all worked out OK, particularly as I managed to loose some of the dies. Happily they did turn up after I cleaned up my desk. Where? In the file I keep my scrap pieces of card!

The projects are one that uses mostly Die Cuts, one that uses mostly stamping and on that uses only stamping and some punches. I am hoping that between them it will show the versatility of the Suite if you just think a little outside the box. I must thank Patty Bennett for the inspiration for the Sunflower. I had seen the possibility of this in the dies, but she made it happen, she must have known it is my logo!

If you have any requests for future Requests on Saturday, please email me or leave a comment below.

Happily, tomorrow's project is a little calmer, which is perfect for a Sunday. Oh, and a lot fewer supplies!!
